It is a time in your life when you realize that what you are doing for a living is no longer fulfilling. There is a feeling that something is missing. This feeling keeps tugging and tugging at your heart, growing stronger with each tug. A job and career that used to give you satisfaction and rewards has now become mundane. You could care less about it and each morning you dread the idea of having to go into work to do the same thing over and over again. You know deep down inside the voice inside of you is screaming that it is time to move on. It is time for a career change during your midlife years.
During your midlife years, it is actually a good time for a career change. Your inner self is letting you know that it is time to move on, that you are ready to learn something new that will challenge you, will teach you something new about yourself, and would give you meaning with a totally new outlook. This is the time to sit down and to look at the whole picture of your career situation. This is the time to write down why you are no longer happy with your present career. This is the time to analyze those reasons. Then you would need to write down what you do enjoy doing regarding job and career. Write down what your greatest skills and talents are. Write down what your passions are that you would love to do for yourself and possibly to start your own business.
Our life experiences continually change who we are as well as our way of thinking. We will never go back to who we once were when we were children, teenagers, and when we were in our young adulthood years. Our career path we chose back then paralleled our way of thinking and our experiences we were having during those moments. Since then we have had new experiences along the way that set the stage to change our outlook on life as we matured, gaining us insight to who we are. Plus, we all get bored with doing the same thing over and over again, being stuck with the same positions that we have had for years and with the same company. Our guide to a career change in our midlife years is to follow our heart, that little voice deep inside that lets us know that it is time to move on to better things.
