Video game reviews: Sonic Unleashed (PS3)

Oh god, those were the days... the blue blur and going through the plains of Green Hill, utilizing those legs of his to race through and beat the clock and moving through the open rays of the world fighting Robotnik, called Eggman now a days, Well of course every one knows the world phenomenon known as Sonic the Hedgehog, and one of the more recent games, Sonic Unleashed.

I've played all the games to see the feel of how to move, run and go in the 3D world of which they start to see that Sonic is in fact gone. Besides the fact that the graphics look excellent, and the main character is known by just about anyone, the games still lack what we saw in the first game, the free running, spin dashing hero that everyone knows and loves, Sonic the Hedgehog. The game however lacks basically because of control layout, why did they change the spin dash controls to another button, as it used to be the same as the jump button, but now after all of that, you have to move your fingers from back and forth through all the levels that you saw in the adventure series. This pissed me off a bit but I said ok towards the change, though again, annoyance pursued.

Onward to the fact that some of the bugs which were in the Sonic games show with camera angles, twisting and turning, blurring visions and making me thing about why the heck do I love Sonic so much, wishing that he would be in his 2D style once more, instead of going 3D, don't get me wrong the speed bursts and things such as that were fun, but what about actually being able to see a giant robot chase you, swiping the fists and then a bug happens with the camera, not cool Sega, not cool. Basically put, Sonic is my favorite character in the genre of videogames but not playing wise. All things considered I got over this as I wanted to go along for mere moments at a time. Moving on...

Werehog... everyone thinks differently but all things considered it isn't a very nice addition, after all, we play Sonic for speed, not for fist fights and platforming, good try but sorry guys. Tell you this much, considering the fact that Werehog seems to make Sonic weaker, no matter how the cutscenes seem, and the fact that enemies are more annoying considering that all it takes is button mashing, Werehog doesn't provide the same likeness to regular old Sonic as fans want, not saying all fans, but their have been complaints... a lot of them.

Even though I'll always have a place for the fastest hedgehog around, the game wasn't as good as I thought it would be, they tried to create variety with Chip the Dog, but he was also seen as an annoyance. Trying to develop new things for the Sonic series is great but doing so needs to be thought of in the mind of the fan, would it be bad or good for the fan, how would we make a sonic game i nthe near future, think about these things, Sonic is the cool blue blur, but Unleashed is a dull boring dud.

So in the near future, please, think of the fan, because that's how you make a true profit.

4/10

I'll always have a place for the Sonic franchise, but this game doesn't ensure that the character won't be forgotten.
