Pros and cons of sharing a bed with a cat

Nothing may feel more relaxing and soothing than spending a winter day in the comfort of your bed with a soft, purring cat. Indeed a cat is to a bed just as bread is to butter: two whole different items that really complement themselves. Cats do not simply love beds, they adore them! It may be because they love warmth, your companionship and sinking their paws into the soft mattress. Kitten-hood memories may come back to them as they imagine being small and happy near their mother. Yet, the whole bubble of comfort and happiness may burst if you start rationalizing about hygiene, practicality and cleanliness. Following are some pros and cons of sharing a bed with a cat.

Pros of Sharing Bed with Cat

-It makes you feel happy

Watching your furry friend enjoy the bed with you ultimately will make you feel happy, especially if you live alone and enjoy your cat's companionship. There is something about cats and their whole philosophy of life that makes you want to celebrate all the little great joys of the present. Perhaps, this is why cats are able to lower blood pressure in people petting them and why cats are often used as a form of therapy in hospitals.

-It makes your cat happy

An empty bed comes free of charge and sharing it with a cat may be a priceless gift in a cat's eyes. Listen to your cat's engine turn on as soon as she leaps into bed, then a little time to ''make bisquits'' and off to sleep soundly and comfortably with you. Many cats are trained to hop into bed at their owners request and stay there for a while. Some cats know the routine well, they will watch you brush your teeth, put on your pajamas and within seconds your cat is there with you to share the bed.

Cons of Sharing a Bed with Cat

-Lack of hygiene

It is a hard pill to swallow but bringing a cat into bed is not one of the most hygienic things to do. First of all, upon jumping into bed your cat will bring along all the great stuff he has collected from walking on your floor. Second, some cats may have parasites, such a tapeworms which may cause the cat to deposit tapeworm segments from his rectum right to your blanket. Third, a cat's rectum is often not that clean and sitting on the bed may cause tiny particles of fecal matter to deposit. If you own a long haired cat, sometimes feces may get stuck behind their tail and may be dragged right into your bed. Not a great sight to wake up in the morning!

-Shredded blankets

As your cat ''makes biscuits' on your bed, very likely he will
