New Years resolutions are something that people tend to make each and every year. They are usually large, nearly impossible personal goals that you set for yourself. More often then not they are broken by the end of January. So are New Years resolutions worth making?
It actually depends on the person but in general they aren't actually worth making. Nothing is worth it when you don't follow through and most people don't. Why don't people follow through with the resolutions that they make? Do they just give up or simply forget? Is it that these resolutions just don't hold much value to people?
Often after the start of the year the goal is to lose the holiday weight gained in about two months. This impossible goal means that most give up the first time they step on the scale to realize that they have not lost an ounce. Instead of making a resolution for the new year maybe changing your lifestyle would be better. Changes to lifestyle are slower and you can do them gradually.
Goals are all the resolutions actually are. Goals are broken down into steps that make them easier to achieve. So why not just have goals for your life? When you set life goals you have a lot more than twelve short months to achieve them. They are actually easier to achieve when you give yourself a realistic amount of time. A year to make all of your dreams come true is no where near realistic. This unrealistic goal setting is what makes the resolutions not worth making in the first place.
The biggest problem with making your New Years resolutions is that you tend to forget that you made them. You can always start over with the resolutions but most people don't. The first time they miss a step in keeping the resolution they give up on it all together.
New Years resolutions are only worth making when you keep the resolutions that you have made. If you never keep even the smallest part of the resolution then you should stop making them. So no they aren't work making. When you can't manage to remember the resolutions that you made they don't do you any good.
New Years resolutions aren't worth the time it takes to make them when you never attempt to keep them. The idea of making and keeping resolutions is nice but it's not actually something that you should worry with.
