The Internet is one of the most useful and widespread modern inventions, that has significantly changed people’s lifestyles, as well as the way they communicate and interact. Probably the most fascinating side of the Internet is its capacity to scale down massive distances and unite people all over the world in ways that were never imagined before.
Communication on the Internet propagates incredibly fast, despite the large distances: instead of sending a regular letter, nowadays there is the possibility of sending emails, which are free and arrive at their destination in a matter of seconds. Moreover, with the rise of instant messengers, video chat and services like Skype, you can communicate live with people from distant places in the world, without having to worry about costs.
The emergence of social networking websites, such as Facebook and Twitter provide a means of keeping touch with friends and connecting with people all over the world in a playful and entertaining way. Users are able to interact live and have fun together, despite large geographical distances.
Furthermore, it has never been easier to share your thoughts with a large audience than by having your own blog or website, where you can keep an online diary, or simply to reflect on topics you find interesting. You can share your experiences and skills with everyone else and showcase your creativity, whilst also learning from others.
Shopping became much more comfortable and convenient with the arrival of online stores, where you can browse through a wide range of products without even leaving your home. Orders can be made securely via Paypal and then shipped to you in a matter of days. You can also order from any online store in the world that ships internationally and have access to new, foreign products that you couldn’t otherwise find at your local retailers.
TV programs can now be watched online and people can voice their opinions by leaving comments or sending in their own personal view on the news stories presented. Video sharing websites like Youtube and Dailymotion allow you to watch videos and television programs from all over the world, or share your own with others.
The Internet has made the world a smaller place by bringing people from all nations together and allowing them to communicate and interact as never before. This global phenomenon has reshaped people’s hobbies, habits and it has given them unthinkable opportunities to connect with others. It has placed a vast amount of information right at everyone’s fingertips, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
The Internet has erased all the limits placed between people by geographical distance and it has provided them with the means to come together and share their passions, their thoughts and their lives with each other. It alone has the power to transform a thousand miles into just a few clicks away.
