Bhutan: an exotic place
Bhutan is a small country sandwiched between India and Tibet. It surrounded by India on the South, east and the west and the Tibetan plateau borders it in the north.
It is an exotic place to travel because of natural beauty and mystic culture. It is also known as the land of dragon.
Bhutan is one the last remaining monarchies of the world. The country is gradually transforming itself to democracy from an absolute monarchy.
It has high rise mountains, beautiful lush green valleys, lakes and great trekking trails. The climate is superb for trekking. It's never hot.
From cultural perspective, Bhutan has a lot of hidden mysteries. Magic and mysticism isBhutan's treasure.
Two great places to visit in Bhutan are Paro and Thimpu. Paro is a beautiful valley. Most international flights lands at Paro airport. You can get a beautiful view of the valley while landing if the weather is clear.
Thimpu is the capital of Bhutan. It is more important politically, then for natural beauty. However, you can still get the quintessential of Bhutanese culture in Thimpu.
The activities that you can do in Bhutan are trekking, rafting, climbing and sightseeing. It is a very good destination for trekking as it has beautiful mountains, hills, lakes and rivers. The trekking trails pass through the villages, jungles and the riversides.
Likewise, rafting is also very interesting in Bhutan. There are several rivers of various lengths and with various grades of rivers where you can raft.
Bhutanese people are very simple and friendly. Most importantly, they are happy.
It is interesting to know that Bhutanese government (essentially, the Bhutanese monarch) measures its growth in terms of GNH (Gross National Happiness) and not GNP (Gross National Product)
In short, Bhutan is a great place to visit if you love nature and like exotic culture.
However, a word of caution! It is not easy to travel to Bhutan. It is expensive basically and you need to book your travel a well ahead.
Because, Bhutan has a limited quota of tourists visiting the country. Tourists cannot tour individually; they need to be in a group escorted by an authorized travel agent.
Some places are out of bounds. The itinerary is pre-scheduled. You don't have a privilege to alter it.
And it's very expensive. By law, you need to spend at least US $ 250 a day. A certain amount of money should be deposited before you enter Bhutan.
