Poetry: Dreams are . . .

by Mary Kathryn Burdick

Don't ....

Don't limit my dreams and fence me in.

I can go after my dream and may even win.

Don't presume to know the thoughts inside my head.

You don't know me until in my shoes you tread.

Don't scoff at my questions.

Unless you have some better suggestions.

Don't presume to know the heartaches I bare.

Unless your willing to take them on and share.

Don't ridicule my clothes and weight.

Who gave you the right to judge and rate?

Don't be proud that you can make me cry.

My God is watching you from up on high.

Don't make fun of my God given emotions.

Do you really think God doesn't see your motions?

Don't make fun of my shape and size.

Do you really think it makes you look wise?

Don't be out to ruin my good name.

What follows next you will only have yourself to blame.

Don't knowingly cause me pain.

Do you really think there's something to gain?

Don't make fun of my Faith and church.

The day will come when you will wish you completed your search.

Don't make fun of my God and goals.

Your only digging yourself deeper in endless holes.
