Poetry: Handle with care

by Deborah Lawwill

Created on: August 07, 2009

At my door in the morning,

a quiet shrieking, light scratches

Something was there, I was certain, very certain

Out of bed I lept up and put on my robe,

Muted the TV, put my ear to the door

With caution, I opened it

And in walked a blonde tabby, relieved to see her new home

A kitten so young, so fragile and dear

So pretty she was, but her face was dark with fear

Quickly out of folded sheets, a little bed I made for the young one

This kitten was my new companion, as I was to her

To the store I rushed quickly for all of her needs

Her faced brightened with hope, as she ate her fancy feast

Outside I went once more, to check around

Outside of my door was posted a note

One message it read, I was sure without a doubt

"Handle with care" the note said

I nodded in agreement and that is what I did
