AFLAC is an insurance plan that is meant to supplement your current health care plan. There are many good things to be said about getting the supplement. It is an individual choice as to whether it is worth the extra cost. In order to make the proper decision for yourself, it pays to know what the program offers to its clients.
Here is vital information that can help you decide if you should supplement your health insurance with AFLAC:
Paid directly to you- AFLAC pays the benefit directly to you. If you get hurt or ill, the money comes to you to spend on food, utilities or anything else you need. That isn't something that you get with your regular health insurance. That money can come in handy when the chips are down and you are unable to work. That is the biggest advantage in getting the supplemental insurance.
Ambulance Coverage- Ambulance, whether it comes from a paid department or volunteer, costs a lot of money. Many people refuse the ambulance because of that fact. Having the AFLAC coverage means you won't have to worry about the cost. It is automatically covered when it comes to accidents or other problems.
Dental- You can also get dental coverage through the AFLAC plan. There are no deductibles and payment still comes directly to you. Although you will have to pay for the service out of pocket, knowing that you will get the money back quickly.
Lump Sums- This coverage will give lump sum payments for certain diseases. Cancer, for instance is covered for a lump sum payment that allows you to have the money on hand for treatment or whatever else you may need. That means you won't have to worry about coming up with the money upfront.
The downside of having AFLAC is that you have to pay for most services and then get reimbursed. This is fine when you have other insurance. Coming up with the cash beforehand can be very difficult though. AFLAC isn't great for those who can't afford those upfront payments in the first place. It is truly only good for those who are working with other plans. It does pay to have it in that case because it gives you the extra cash you may need when you can't work.
The other downside is that you have to pay extra for the supplement. The rates vary and it depends on your financial situation as to whether it is cost effective for you. AFLAC can be a great way to avoid losing money, but only if you can afford the cost in the first place.
