Dinner parties can be magical. Entertaining your good friends and enjoying nice conversations is one of life's greatest pleasures. The main thing most people worry about when planning a dinner party is, of course, the dinner. It is the most important part, but this fact makes people forget that the setting for the dinner can really make the evening special. There are several steps to making an elegant and beautiful table setting, but it is not as complex and difficult as it can seem.

The first step to creating an elegant table setting is to use nice, coordinating sets of silverware and dinnerware. However, they shouldn't coordinate with only one another, but also with the decoration for the whole table and the food. If you are having an autumn themed dinner with a fall fruit basket centerpiece and a main course of sirloin with a red wine sauce, use dinnerware that has some of the colors and patterns of the autumn fruit, the rich burgundy of wine, and the heaviness of steak in it. It can be as simple as a leaf motif or burgundy accents on the plates with simple silverware or as intricate as dark red dinnerware with silver floral designs and silverware and silver goblets with matching designs.

However, your setting doesn't need to be elaborate to look nice though. Oftentimes simplicity is very beautiful. Subtle details are usually the key to an elegant setting. Rather than focusing on matching many details, attempt to keep a theme running through the entire setting. In the autumn fruit basket example above, instead of matching the fruit in design and color, you could use rustic, country style dinnerware and silverware with a red checked table cloth and have a "the Country in the Fall" theme.

The second step to creating a beautiful table setting is to create a perfect environment for the setting. One way to do this is to pick a good location. An ideal location for the "Country in the Fall" theme would be out on the patio, under the trees, lit by the setting sun. However, you don't need to change location to create the right environment. Another "location" for a country feel could be in a dimmed dining room with all the windows open and plenty of short, chunky candles adding extra light. Once again, it does not need to be elaborate, unless you want it to be. Something as simple as changing the curtains or hanging a wreath can have an impact on the atmosphere.

The third, and final, step to creating a great table setting is to arrange the table well. A table
