RAIN
When it rains
I am reminded
of loss
and sadness
A delicate rain
Softer memories
Those who were
near to us
dear to us
When it rains
Thundering downpour
I become drenched in
realization
Soaking wet in thoughts
heavy
melancholy
Dripping on the cobblestones
as I walk
head down
London Fog
Fedora
Greyness and reflected white light
When it rains
I feel the tautness of my skin
Shriveled as if prematurely old
my forebears were young once
they dreamt the big dreams
they toiled on this earth
grim consequence
meager reward
Then it rains and
that stubborn sprout
of hope
pushes upward
through
the hardscrabble
nothingness
the
surface of
my
Fears

Showers in Mexico
Cars on the cobblestone streets
emit gas into the humid air,
as the smell of salt lingers
from the nearby
When it rains the old man thinks
He see's slithers of silver,
Littering his garden path.
His elderly brain turns lightening
