Of course not! Even though up-class people might think so it is untrue, it doesn't matter whether a dog is a purebred or a mutt (unless it's a dog show), it depends on how the dog was raised and how much his or her personality is compatible to yours. Dogs can be the ugliest, most filthy dog in the world, but they may have the best personality on the face of the Earth.

Even though I do prefer cats, dogs are a lot better when you are raising a young boy, especially if the dog is a puppy. Because the two will most likely grow a great relationship that is only broken when one of them dies. Let us say for instance that the kid and his whole family are killed in a car accident. Then the dog would not have an owner or his best friend back ever again, the dog would probably develop like us humans, depression. This means he would stop eating, stop drinking, and not be as friendly as he was before his master was killed. That's why they put those certain types of dogs down sooner than most, because they want to put them out of their misery.

Now, I will hinder on the subject of purebred dogs, purebreds will most likely look very similar to the dogs you sometimes see in the movies. They are very beautiful, and that is why they are only accepted in dog shows. They look a lot more attractive to the judges than a street mutt would look like. (Tip: If you are planning on entering your dog in a dog show, make sure he is not "fixed").

Finally, the mutt, they are the dogs you see running loose on the streets, but sometimes they can be extremely lovable. Mutts are a mix between two different breed of dog. Therefore, he will look different, and maybe you will be able to spot the different features in mutts.

If you want a strong dog, I suggest getting a purebred German Shepherd or a Rottweiler, or you can get a mutt that has both characteristics. My guess is that would be an extremely tough dog. If you want a family dog, any works fine, but the best are probably labs. If you want a rescue dog, I suggest getting a Dalmatian or a St. Bernard. These are two of the most famous dogs on the Earth because they are featured in many kids movies, so I must warn you, never stand next to the St. Bernard when he is about to go to the bathroom.
