Getting to Grandma's
INT. DAY - BEDROOM
EMILY, a dim-witted teenager, lies on her bedroom floor listening to music. She nods her head and taps her foot. The large headphones cover her ears, drowning out any sound around her.
Emily's MOM calls her from the living room.
MOM (V.O.)
Emily!
Emily nods her head. Taps her foot.
MOM (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Emme! Emily!
Emily is completely unaware when her Mom steps in.
MOM (CONT'D)
Emily, I-
Emily takes her headphones off.
EMILY
What?!
MOM
Listen, I need you to take Grandma her prescriptions.
Emily rolls her eyes.
MOM (CONT'D)
Emme, you know your grandmother can't pick them up herself, what with her broken femur and all. I'm sure she'd really like to see you, too.
EMILY
Fine.
Her mom tosses Emily a bottle of pills and exits the room. Emily starts to put her headphones back on when her mom reenters.
MOM
And do it right away, please. I kind of picked them up a little late so she needs them right away.
Emily gives a heavy sigh.
EXT. DAY - DRIVEWAY
Emily walks down her driveway and jumps in her Toyota Prius.
INT. CONTINUOUS - PRIUS
She buckles up and presses a button to start the car. She checks her mirrors and revs her engine.
EXT. CONTINUOUS - DRIVEWAY
The car jerks backward and stops suddenly. It rolls forward and leaves the driveway.
INT. DAY - PRIUS
Emily drives along a windy country road. Surrounding her are mountains and trees. The day is bright and cloudless.
The scenery is pleasant and weather perfect. Emily takes each turn slowly, leisurely.
Out of nowhere, a panther jumps in the road in front of her.
Quickly reacting, Emily swerves. Narrowly missing it.
Barely affected by it, she wipes a bead of sweat off her brow.
She takes a quick glance in her rearview mirror.
EMILY
That was close.
She then crashes head first into a stop sign.
EMILY (CONT'D)
Damn!
Emily gets out of her car and checks for damage.
EXT. CONTINUOUS - ROAD
Everything looks fine. Emily looks up at the stop sign.
"STOP"
She shakes her head.
INT. CONTINUOUS - PRIUS
Emily gets back in the car and tries to turn it on. She presses the button.
Nothing.
She presses the button again. Forcefully.
Nothing.
She presses the button again and again. Nothing happens. She honks her horn once.
She flips open her phone. On the screen, it says:
"NO SIGNAL, BIOTCH"
She shuts it and tosses it to the front passenger seat.
Emily takes a deep sigh and grabs her grandma's pills. She gets out of the car and slams the door behind her.
EXT. CONTINUOUS - ROAD
Bright. Sunny. The windy country road stretches out
