[Hold Onto My Words]
I wish space could somehow erase time
I wouldn't need this tequila, or this lime
You would figure 600 miles would be enough
That with every mile, it only got a little less tough
Instead, space seems to magnify it all
No longer seeing his face, rather, waiting for his call
Maybe time is just an elusion
Driving you to this place of confusion
They say time heals all wounds
They don't recognize that until then, you're doomed
They fail to say the amount it takes
That you'll cry while your body shakes
Every memory plays over like a cassette
The only thing you wish to feel is regret
But you know regret is the last thing you feel
Regret isn't going to help it heal
So, then, where do you go from here
Knowing you miss him so dear?
What do you do when your mind explodes?
When, finally, everything unloads?
You're happy, of course, because he's okay
But it won't be because of what you do or say
Knowing it's no longer you who's going to cure his pain
The one you wanted to protect won't need you again
For he has someone else to wipe his tears
To hold his hand and help him face his fears
You know he's strong, and he's done what's right
But still, you feel for you there is no light
You're scared, so you begin to build your wall
The one he tried so hard to make it fall
But you believe it's the best thing for you to do
Shut everyone out who wants to be with you
Suddenly, you've never felt so alone
You feel the aching throughout every bone
Knowing that this is the last thing you want or need
You decide maybe, then, you should proceed
Whether you left him first or not
It's not like every memory you forgot
You don't have to pretend that you don't care
That he doesn't exist, or that he's not there
It's easier to pretend he's nothing at all
But you know you should just give him a call
To let him know its okay and you're there for him
Tell him the truth, that everything seems dim
But let him know you're sorry for actin' a fool
And that as of now, everything is cool
It's okay to let him know you care
That, no matter what, you'll always be there
By any means, this isn't going to be easy
But you'll feel better you'll see
Its okay to feel and it's okay to hurt
But don't disgrace yourself and compare yourself to dirt
This is one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do
And you're a very strong woman for seeing it through
You're a smart and beautiful woman, if you will
To know it will hurt, but following through still
You've got everything going for you
Believe it or not, he recognizes this too
It might not ever be like it was before
You might not ever be the one he adores
But you've got to know that that's alright
All you can do is hold onto this tight
Don't deny, rather, just accept
Understand yourself, and this new concept
You're strong, and you're going to be okay
If nothing else, hold onto the words that I say

Two worlds apart…
Two worlds so far apart.
Two worlds that collide on occasion.
Occasionally, it is all we get sometimes.

that God doesn't exist,
I, for one believe in Him
even beyond the morning's mist.
