Video game reviews: Vahalla Knights (PSP)

I have always thought Vahalla Knights for the PSP looked like a cool PSP game. Unfortunately, it has always been too high of a price for me, until it went down a bit. I bought it and started playing at home. There were quite a few things good and quite a few things bad.

Right off the bat, I realized how good the graphics were. They were very good for a 3-D game. First thing that you do is set your statistics such as strength, vitality, etc. You then walk into the guild where you select a job and a quest. The game also gives you the option of going into other stores to buy equipment and items like armor, weapons, and potions then you're off to the dungeon to explore!

The plot isn't anything new or exciting. You wake up without your memory then all of a sudden, you have to defeat the dark lord and save the world. When you first get to the dungeon, the monsters are fairly easy like they should be. After you complete your fairly simple first quest, you go and report it to the lady at the guild. She gives you your reward, another quest and sends you back to the dungeon.

The first thing I realized when I got back down there is that the monsters are three times harder! So until you can kill them really easily (which you won't be able to do for a long, long time,) you're stuck going out of the dungeon every time you fight a monster to heal and then have to go all the way back to attempt to complete the quest. Eventually, you played long enough to earn enough gold to buy a new character to add another character to your party.

They barely help at all! The mage uses more fighting than magic, getting killed very easily, which means another trip to the magical fountain to heal. For hours and hours longer, you must dungeon crawl to find stuff for the lady at the guild. The camera gets caught in a corner almost all the time sometimes making you stumble into a deadly fight that you were desperately trying to avoid.

The art is very good, though. Nice graphics, and all the races and classes are drawn well (except the Dwarf who looks like an Indian human more than an actual Dwarf.) Otherwise, this game is just a waste of money. It is a good game that keeps you busy (in a tedious way,) when you're desperately in need of entertainment.

Overall, the game deserves 3.5 stars out of 10.
