Poetry: Running from tomorrow

by Jim Huckabee

Created on: August 05, 2009   Last Updated: December 10, 2011

Today holds promises tomorrow can not keep.
I have fought time each day in its turn.
Each dragon slain leaves a scar
Bringing tomorrow closer now.
The fiery gates may be in tomorrows chest.
So today I shall be my best
Seeking out a timely quest.
To foil morrows retched plot.
Tomorrow might be calling loud,
But today sings a valiant song.
Tomorrow breathes an icy breath
I feel it know but I will not cede.
Tomorrow, only that baying hound.
So I will live and run another day.
