For Iran to spread their branch of Islam throughout the Middle East, along with controlling the oil is Ahmadinejad's version of conquering the world. This, along with the destruction of Israel is all the world he and the people of Iran would ever need. Since 1979 they have been steadily spreading their religion, even fighting a long war with Iraq. They sit there now salivating over the possible victory of the liberal left in America. This would allow them to move into Iraq and finish what they couldn't do in their own war with Saddam. They would then try to do as Saddam did when he went into Kuwait. Maybe they would not invade Kuwait but would seek to control the world market of oil. They have the capability to block traffic in the Persian Gulf through mining and missile technology. To be the big dog on the street, they would have to be the leader in rallying the Muslim countries against Israel.

Personally, this whole scenario is difficult enough for them as for one, America still stands in their way. America is right at the back fence and just looking for a reason to kick it down. America also has the muscle to open up the Gulf if need be. In any case, the punishment for Tehran after they tried such a move would be paid with blood and the price would be steep. Secondly, Israel is a power of their own. To push Israel would be like asking for Armageddon. As it is now, Israel may be ready to hit Iran just on the potential harm Iran may wish to apply on Israel with their renegade nuclear program.

I don't care if the birth rate quadruples in Iran, I do not see any world dominance in the future. What is more likely is that Iran puts itself into a position where they feel they can impose their will and might try to push the envelope. This can only come to devastation for Iran, not world dominance. They may be capable of doing great damage but only to receive that right back ten fold.
