How to Build a Healthy Marriage
Building a healthy marriage is not a one-sided proposition. It takes the two of you as a married couple to strive in everyday life to become a better person for each other. Take a moment to remember your vows, FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE, IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH, 'TIL DEATH DO YOU PART. These were life-time vows that you spoke and promised to. Knowing that life has its own twists and turns that are unpredictable, you must always be strong in the faith of your relationship to overcome any hurdle put in your path.
The first and foremost thing that you should know is how to be happy with yourself, respect yourself as an individual. You must do this first before you can respect others in a relationship. There are many of us that have past baggage that will not seem to release its hold on us. We have to learn to make peace with that baggage no matter what it may be. If it was a terrible childhood, past relationships; one's that even may have included abuse. In order to be right for someone in a relationship, you must put that baggage behind you and make peace in your own life. Knowing this is the first step to becoming a partner in a healthy marriage. Although often times is easier said than done.
In a healthy marriage your partner should be like a best friend. Someone you can talk to about anything. It is so vitally important to be able to discuss anything with your partner openly, your fears, desires, sorrows, hopes and dreams. The most important part of this is being honest, with yourself and your partner. Do not try to sugar coat things to impress them, the best relationships hold honesty. If you make a mistake, admit it. If you cannot do this, then your relationship is bound by deceit. This is not the way to have a healthy relationship. Open, honest communication, is what your relationship should be based on.
Remember certain personality traits that originally attracted you to one another. It is important to remember what it was that attracted you to one another, was it your partners sense of humor, was it the simple gratitude of giving to others, was it the way they carried themselves in a difficult situation or all the above. A sense of humor can bring you through the good times and the bad. It is all how you handle your life. If you do not allow life to bring you down to the point where you forget there are others in your life that you respect and others that respect you; keep your special personality
