How to decide if you should live in a fraternity or sorority house

Are there good points to fraternities? Well there can be. If you like living with others and sharing living expenses and experiences then it might be for you. If you like establishing a network of lifelong friends and the possibility of an extended network through previous fraternity alumni, this could be your ticket in. Anyone who wants to become a captain of industry needs a network to found his success on, a fraternity might do that for you. What can be especially positive about the fraternity experiences is the ability to rely on an old school ties to open up doors in business that might otherwise to be closed to you. A good fraternity or sorority or fraternity allows to to be part of a four dimensional network so that your possible contacts span time as well and space.

A good fraternity has a social outreach and social action plan. They do things like organize, sponsor and hold charity events for the community. A good fraternity is especially good at supporting events and charities that help under privileged, male children. A good fraternity understands that much of the evil that happens in society is due to the lack of a father in the home and while a group of fraternities guys can't go around being surrogate fathers to all fatherless children, they can be positive male role models and they can demonstrate, just by being willing to help and pitch in, that men are actually good for something.

If you are a shy guy who has difficulty meeting or introducing yourself to women, a fraternity can be a built in icebreaker. After all what is a fraternity if not a social club? They have a club house they control enough to throw parties and hold dances. They can raise money enough to hire a good band and to have a decent quality and quantity of booze on tap for the festivities. And being the social secretary in a fraternity gives you a ready made excuse to hang out with those hot looking sorority chicks. After all you have to plan joint parties, fund raisers, dances and charity events with the girls. Sounds like you found a way into the sorority house after all. Congratulations!

Stay out of a fraternities that are involved in current legal troubles. You will have enough to think about concerning your studies, meeting new people and gaining new experiences. Stay out of fraternities that feature near death experiences in their hazing rituals. Everyone dies soon enough so there is no need to hasten the process via alcohol poisoning.
