You are in the hospital giving birth and hear the words "it's a girl". From that moment on the drama begins. Parents are showing off their baby girl. The little dresses, hair bows, and shoes are just so adorable they have to put their baby in them. Then the next thing you know the baby is entered in the cutest baby contest. Some parents go as far as putting their baby in a baby pageant. Of course, some go even further and try to score commercials on their little girl's look. Their whole life that little girl is always hearing how cute she is.

Advance a few years and that adorable baby is a beautiful teenager. She is now in the world where she loves to read her teenage magazines, and watch MTV. She sees models on a daily basis. She copies the beauty tips she reads in the magazines, and thinks she can conquer the world. Of course, shows like America's Next Top Model just fuel her fire. Then the junk-mail comes in the mailbox offering modeling contests. She keeps entering pageants and winning. Who needs school, or a meaningless job when you can have glamour and glitz? Teenagers don't think of the big picture. They are popular, tall, and skinny. They know they are beautiful, and modeling would be a easy way to get rich quick. It is their easy way out. They don't realize how much money and work it will actually take to get started. All they can see is the exotic places they can shoot at, or just posing for a camera all day.

Today's society has stereotyped women so badly. We give our kids the message that you can only get by on looks. You have to be famous or in a magazine to really be successful. These kids aspire to become models, because they feel that is the only way to make something of themselves. Some girls truly want to become models, because they love fashion, makeup, and the camera. Some girls who are not so popular feel that if they could become a model, then everything would change for them. They would be popular and rich, and more than that people would eat her dust. Society has shaped our image that the prettier, taller, and skinnier girls are the only ones who guys would like. It's easy to see why girls would aspire to become models.
