Emotional resilience refers to how you are able to monitor and use your emotions to your advantage, be it negative or positive. Everyone has the ability to manage their emotions. However, not everyone makes a conscious effort to do so. As such, we witness outbursts and depressions in a lot of people. Emotional resilience is a skill and a "learnable" one at that. Positive emotions are good and normally are well channeled by our body itself. It is the negative energy that we constantly need to channel in order maintain a sane mind.
You will need to start with identifying your emotions that makes you feel negative. This could be in the form of frequent outburst, high blood pressure, fast heart beats, sweaty hands, giddiness and many others. Once you identify them, you can start channeling them by being positive and talking to yourself to be positive and take things in your stride and even leave the place or person who is causing such emotions. Once you start manipulating your emotional response to situations, you will start experiencing all the benefits of being emotionally resilient. Now what are the benefits?
Emotionally resilient people are well composed. They have the tendency to have a better outlook and better perspective. They are not slaves to their emotions. Rather, they are in control and decide how they want their emotions to affect them and their surroundings. As such, they are more receptive of the feelings of not only themselves but of the people around them. These are skills that will serve you well in terms of good health, a properly functioning immune system.
A proper functioning immune system means that you are much healthier and have the ability to fight disease and hence, have a better quality of life. Moreover, people who are emotionally resilient have the ability to realize that they need to release good hormones in their body. Hence, they tend to exercise often and this in turn helps them to keep fit as well.
Moreover, emotionally resilient people are happy and they always have a smile on their face. This makes them a lot more approachable. Negativities distance people from us and hence shut out our social life which will bring us deeper towards depression. Therefore, another benefit of emotional resilience is the extending social circle. The more people you know, the more resourceful you are. This will mean that you have more avenues to explore, interact and gain from.
The benefits of emotional resilience are aplenty. All you need to do is to understand that you are designed to face all the things that are thrown at you. You need to make use of your inner and outer abilities to face them and that will bring your closer to ultimate happiness and serenity. Moreover, you will be closer to attaining self fulfillment.
