Short stories: Weekends

by Five Sisters

Created on: August 04, 2009

Nestled in between Friday and Monday, the weekend for me always seems to arrive just in the nick of time. This one was of no exception. I had been hopelessly wrapped up in the stupidity of a covert marketing plan which was being lead by a very dense leader leading a very clueless team. My responsibility was to assist in the understanding of the actions needed and to make sure that they were all carried out. My task was simply to enlighten the team. It's not that simple when everything is covert. So I tried, and I failed, and then I went home - for the weekend.

My commute is forty minutes from door to door and in that time my mind is lit with endless possibilities of personal accomplishments. Have-to-do's are always at the top of the agenda, some of which are: catch up on the laundry, scrub the tub, mow the back forty, balance the checkbook, clean the drip pan, clean the grill, shock the pool, tidy [but not clean] the garage, fix the fax, buy stamps, buy groceries, buy socks, empty the dishwasher and then fill it again with everything partying together in the sink, call the dentist, make an appointment to fix the new sound "humming" under my car, and finally phone home.

In addition to those, I always enjoy entertaining thoughts of personal fulfillment and fun. Crossing my mind for this weekend: climb Mount Monadnock [then come back down], take in a whole nine innings of the Red Sox for the first time this season, wash and wax the car, take a trip to Newbury street for an amazingly expensive new haircut, walk Bailey down the Charles, pick blueberries, pick raspberries, mix them together and make a pie, call Brian for a date, call Tommy for a date, call Dan for a quickie, paddle the Sudbury river, buy a new skirt for my dates, take a nap.

On this particular ride home the traffic was horrendous. Seems as though the sun glare brigand struck once again and there was a four car pileup up by exit twenty-nine. I guess the "beware of sun glare" sign didn't help this time around as it was too hard to see because of the sun glare.

So, by the time I got home not only was I climbing mountains in my mind but I was dropping everything and heading down to the Cape, skydiving out in Pepperell all day Saturday, adopting a new pup to become Bailey's best friend, staining the back porch, and deep frying a turkey.

When I finally did get home I was greeted by my big lug and tugged down to the local dog park for a quick scratch-n-sniff.
