They said she looked
like a movie star
as she gracefully
stepped out of her car.
But then she felt
like a fool as she
suddenly tumbled
to the ground.
Loud bawdy
laughter was
the only sound
she heard
that lonesome
afternoon.
Then she
went back home.
Feeling dejected
and all alone.
She got up
to fix herself
a bite to eat.
A special
little treat.
She hadn't
realized that
her hair
had gotten
caught in the chair.
She was
headed to
the fridge
but she
didn't get very far.
She heard
the wail of sirens
then her
husband's junky car.
She was
pulled back
to the chair
by her six foot
long hair.
This was
the same old rut.
It had
happened
many times before.
She tugged
and she strained.
Red-faced
and in pain.
Then she
stumbled.
Tumbled to
the floor.
She could
see her reflection
in the
ancient mirror.
It registered
her dejection,
aggravation
and fear.
Rage
and shame
combined
only
produced
one tear.
She looked
like a homeless,
love-starved mutt.
Early
tomorrow
morning,
her annoying
hair
would
be cut.
