Nine Inch Nails is a mostly industrial metal 'band' formed in 1988 by Trent Reznor. A lot of fans disagree with the term band being used in conjunction with Nine Inch Nails (NIN), as Reznor is in fact the only official member, and is the sole composer of the lyrics and music, and is usually the only person involved during any recording sessions. An official touring group has been established by Reznor to tour with him and play live shows.
Considering that NIN is basically a one man band, the quantity of material it has produced is amazing. NIN have eight studio releases, numerous singles and EPs and have received twelve various music awards to date. So as you can see picking ten of the best songs by NIN is not easy task, although I have tried my best.
10. Metal
This track really stands out from the rest of the 'Things Falling Apart' album; every other song is intensely industrial with heavy bass and a lot of synthesiser. Metal is the track in the middle of it all that opens with a clean guitar riff and drum beat. The singing is just great over the cleaner music with the lyrics being whispered in the background giving it an extra air of eeriness.
9. All The Love In The World
The opening track on the 'With Teeth' album starts off with a slow, bass intro and clean drum beat, with Trent singing with an air of pain and sadness over it all. Eventually the song is joined with a piano and continues on to become faster and faster until it reaches a crescendo and finishes.
8. Only
Also from the 'With Teeth' album, this also starts with a clean drum beat, which then meets with a guitar riff and piano. The piano eventually fades out, replaced by a heavy bass riff. Lyrically this is an amazing song, and you can really feel the passion and intensity in Trent's voice as he sings.
7. March Of The Pigs
This song can be found on the famous 'Downward Spiral Album' the song starts out with an angry drum beat and guitar riff, with Trent screaming over them. The music slows down at the bridge for Trent to as 'doesn't it make you feel better?'. It then goes back to full speed. This is by far one of the most intense songs, I think, from Nine Inch Nails.
6. Starfuckers Inc.
The song from 'The Fragile ; Right CD' that Trent famously wrote about Marilyn Manson after they had an argument; they eventually resolved the situation and Trent released the song with Marilyn starring the main, blond-wigged, character in the video. This is another very intense song
