Poetry: Children & poverty

by Juanita Swyney

Poverty a curse on human race
Little children are brought into this world
Without knowing what their tomorrow holds
Just another tear on another face.

Do you know what it is to be without food?
Having to beg your way to have a meal
Sometimes your lucky, if you succeed
Otherwise its just no good.

You see them everyday, children on the street
They differ in ages, but still hungry all day
Each fighting for a slice of bread
Some get to eat, others crawl for lack of feet

Yet there are those who over eat and waste
Cannot spare a dollar for the hungry child
They shout and swear at these little kids
Children imagine , what is taste.

Too many images of starving faces
An epidemic at such a large scale
Children are the innocent victims
Yet there is food scarce.
