The series of Silent Hill proves to be a very frightening game. The game first came out on the Sony Playstation 2 and was a big hit. There are several games of Silent Hill on many gaming consoles like the XBOX 360, WII, and the PSP.
The PSP version of Silent Hill: Origins was actually quite satisfying in my opinion. It was a scary game when played it the dark (or even in the day for that matter) with a nice variety of weapons, items, and monsters. It was a very fun game that scares the heck out of you sometimes. Another good point of the game was the puzzles. The puzzles were challenging, but not impossibly hard to figure out.
I was quite disappointed though, when I found how boring the combat was. I was expecting the combat to be better, but instead, all you have to do is push the x button to attack and when the creature falls you must finish him by pushing the x button again. The best part of the fighting was every once in a while you get in a brawl where you must push x repeatedly or push the buttons that come up on the screen quick enough to avoid getting a large amount of damage dealt.
I loved how there were two different worlds in the game. Shortly after starting the game you find that mirrors act almost as access to a different world. There is the regular world, which is quite scary because it's so deserted and eerie, and then there is the other world which is bloody, dark, nightmarish, deadly, and even scarier. It is fun to be feeling fright in one world and relief in the other.
What I also found interesting was a special effect that was throughout the whole game. The screen was slightly fuzzy looking as if watching a television that isn't as clear as you would normally like. Some would find this annoying having to play the game like that, but I found it very cool. I thought it was a good addition to the game, although I'm not quite sure how or why the makers chose the effect.
Overall I think it's just one of those games where you either love or hate, but I think it is a good addition to a collection of PSP games. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror games and those escape games on the Internet, although it has much better quality than those Internet games. I don't actually think it's a very inappropriate mature rated game. It is just very bloody for the most part.
Based on the whole entire game, I give it an 8 out of 10.
