The dangers of Internet pornography

by Gordon Hamilton

Created on: August 02, 2009

The dangers of Internet pornography are generally considered more often than not to be comprised largely of the potential for children to find the various sites. The reality is, however, that there are far more dangers of Internet pornography than this grave one and that all who view Internet pornography are therefore subjecting themselves to a number of dire possible consequences.

There can be no denying that a very big danger of Internet pornography is that it will be seen by children. Even though it is possible to set such as parental controls on computers, these facilities are often not taken advantage of and can not be deemed to be one hundred percent reliable even when they are. This means that it is entirely possible for an unsupervised child browsing the Internet to accidentally come across virtually any type of pornography. This is particularly because Google search results can very often throw up the most unexpected sites in response to very innocent search criteria.

The dangers of Internet pornography also include putting one's PC at risk. There are many sites of this nature which are not secure and can cause all sorts of technical problems with PC's. It could even be the case that subscribing to any of these sites will lead to an avalanche of spam e-mails which will clog up a mailbox and potentially prove very embarrassing or damaging if perhaps accessed in such as a workplace.

It is also of course conceivable that an Internet user could leave details of pornographic sites on their Internet history of pages visited for the details subsequently to be found by someone else who has access to the PC. This could be a colleague at work or a spouse or partner at home and lead to at the very least questions which the individual is not comfortable about answering.

Internet pornography is the most dangerous type of pornography available not only in the sense of how readily accessible it is but also in the sense that the inability to control the publishing of it means that virtually anything can be made available, in a way that was simply not possible with the likes of magazines or videos. This means that there is no limit to the vile nature of some of the activities featured, many of which are well outwith the boundaries of most countries' laws.

The dangers of Internet pornography can be seen therefore to be many and varied and something which all responsible Internet users should be aware of if they are to successfully guard themselves, their families and their PC's against the potential effects of them.
