Along with their creative intentions, facial piercings often lead to various disadvantages. In fact I can't think of an advantage of facial piercings. They can show a side of creativity, who you are. They can be cool, neat, trendy, etc., but in most circumstances there can be a price to pay.
EMPLOYMENT
Chances are, a person with facial piercings isn't always able to obtain a job or a career even at a piercing shop. For the unlucky candidates, what does this lead to? Chances are your employment opportunities are slim to none. Brains aren't the only attribute employers look for. I won't say beauty is also what they look for, but I will say appearance. Whether your seeking a part time job at a local fast food restaurant or an entry level management position, appearance matters.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/RECREATIONAL SPORTS
Have you ever seen a professional athlete with facial piercings? Maybe so, but not during participation. This sounds like no big deal, you can easily remove the piercings. What if you just got the piercings done! Chances are your holes are going to close up and you did nothing, but waste money and possibly accumulated scars. This doesn't just apply to professional athletes, but more so all athletes. If you like to participate in physical activities with friends or family, such as a backyard football game, most likely your not following the rules fully. You might forget or let it slide and risk a piercing being ripped out, because you simply didn't remove your piercings.
PROFESSIONAL/ RELIGOUS EVENTS
When I say professional, I'm not referring to a job business meeting. What if you are an entrepreneur and your dream is to one day start up your own piercing shop. You may hold the knowledge and capability, but you lack funding. You will need to seek investors or obtain a bank loan. This will require you to give a presentation and again appearance matters. You might not be taken seriously. Church is a place where you can go as you are, but do you really want to attend church with a face full of piercings? It's not in any case appropriate. With all that has been mentioned, it's easy to say they can just be removed, but there is still a risk. You may risk the appearance of scarring and as I mentioned earlier, the closure of holes if you just got them done.
The disadvantages of facial piercings ultimately seem like no big deal, and in my opinion they aren't. In a professional, appropriate matter, they are. People should never worry about what others think, but let's be real, we all do! Facial piercings can spark unwanted attention, negative comments, etc. Is any of this really worth it? You may say yes it's worth it, but is it in the long run? They just might lead to regret, unwanted scarring and a fools face as he/she grows old.
