Poetry: Define normal

by David Kamikaze

Created on: August 01, 2009

Born to the church
Back turned
Gone are the days of innocence.
I'm aching to change the rules
But who am I to put them in their place?
Taking a chance,
Taking a step back
To see who they really are
But they don't see me.
They don't see who I am,
I am the black sheep.
I am the demon
The monster
Damned and lost
No cause
No effect.

Broken and bleeding,
Another Mirtazapine please
To make me human.
I've been dying to break the cycle,
But what can I say when they know what is best?
Taking a chance,
Taking a step back
To see who I really am,
But I can't see me.
I can't see who I am.
I am a depressive,
Bipolar
Up one minute
Down the next,
Highs and
Lows.

So maybe I'm crazy,
But I'm happy where I am
Happy to be me.
I'm trying to change the method,
But what is the point when it's already set?
They know right.
They know wrong.
I can't define normal,
I don't know what that is.
I am a madman
A saint
A sinner.
I am a lover
A poet
A critic
A brother
A son
An uncle
A singer
A geek
And happy.

Am I normal?
And more to the point,
Why should I care if I am?
