Every weekend in the months of February and March, before the Arizona sun becomes too unbearable, thousands of people, both old and young alike, are transported back in time to a place where knights joust atop noble steeds and bards sing of days gone by. The Arizona Renaissance Festival is one of the largest of its kind, featuring more food, art, entertainment and quality craftsmanship than almost any other renaissance fair in the United States. With over thirty acres transformed into a 16th Century European Country Faire, it's easy to spend an entire day losing yourself in the excitement.
With twelve stages providing continuous entertainment, you'll never be without something to tempt your eyes. Watch gypsies dance in melodic harmony, or strike up a conversation with the King and Queen, whatever your delight, you will certainly be amused. There are over 500 costumed performers ready to show you their special talents, including "Ded Bob" and his assistant Sluj, the vaudevillian styling of Dextre Tripp, Don Juan and Miguel, and even the famed village fool. See special demonstrations, including some of the best swordplay and falconry in the nation.
What is a renaissance festival without jousting? One of the things that makes the Arizona Renaissance Festival so special is that during its eight week run, guests will be able to watch an actual jousting competition. "Knights" and their horses train all year long for this dangerous and spectacular event, and they come from all across the United States to participate. When the dust finally settles and the lances are dropped, spectators are encouraged to visit the stables to meet thier favorite knights and horses in person.
Perhaps the most tantalizing aspect of the Arizona Renaissance Festival is the famed Pleasure Feast. Twice daily, guests can enjoy six courses from the King's kitchen, served by appropriately garbed wenches and tavern knaves. During the feast, guests are entertained by boisterous and raucous performances that keep the mood elevated. Not only is the food fantastic, but the atmosphere is second to none. Seating is limited, and special tickets are required.
If you don't make it to the Pleasure Feast, don't fear that your taste buds won't be tickled, the festival is chalk full of tasty morsels to delight your senses. From full turkey legs to traditional drink and pastry, you better be sure to bring an empty stomach to this renaissance experience. You might also want to bring an extra tote, as you will certainly go home with your share of finely crafted treasures from the Artisan Marketplace. Whether you're interested in jewelry or chainmail, over 200 specialty shops and booths to browse, you're sure to find exactly what you're looking for.
Finally, every little princess dreams of marrying her prince, and at the Arizona Renaissance Festival, you can do just that! If you're looking for the perfect setting for a fairytale wedding, there is none more romantic than the 16th Century, where chivalry reigned supreme. Special wedding coordinators are available for further details.
So, whether you're a teacher looking for a fabulous place to take your students on a field-trip, a parent looking for a day of entertainment for your children, or an adult looking for a romantic day with the one you love, the Arizona Renaissance Festival has something for you!
