Travel experiences: Philippines

As the mesmerizing sunset glitters on the ocean surface, the smiles of its ever friendly people bring warm welcome to whosoever set foot on its rich soil. Its busy streets are like endless paths that provide you a glimpse of the country's proud culture. Going further, you'll notice that there are more places to explore, more people to meet and more adventures to seek. And it's here in the Philippines, a travel destination that is on par with the best in the world. It's really good to be home.

I've traveled far and wide, but it was only recently that I explored some of the magnificent places in my own country. While the beautiful places I've been to have all left a mark in my heart, I felt it was time to continue exploring my native land. Most of my travels are work-related, But it didn't stop me from reveling at the marvels that surround me.

My first stop was Palawan, the third largest island in the Philippines. It is home to what is considered as the eight wonder of the world, the subterranean river. This two-mile or so stretch of narrow passageway was believed to have been formed millions of years ago. As my boatman and I paddled our way through the river, we saw wild bats clinging on to the stalactites. Yes there are a lot of stalactites and stalagmites formation you can see here, which were made more mystical by the emerald waters below. While the tour didn't last long (the remaining stretch is close to the public), I've enjoyed every minute of it. From then on, I vowed to return to this place.

Then I headed to Boracay, where the crystal clear water meets the fine powder white sand. This island is teeming with life. On the shore, I've seen revelers soaking up the sun or playing water sports. I've also seen sand masters that can whip up a masterpiece in minutes. Of course the best thing to do here is head to the water and get wet. But at night, Boracay becomes a totally different place. No longer was it just a beach destination, but a party place where crowds gather - especially during the summer season. Different bars, lots of people, and party till sunshine! I never got to enjoy the rest of Boracay (except for a boat trip around the island and a bit of snorkeling) as I only stayed there for three days. But it was all fun!

My last stop was in Davao City. I thought it was like any other trips I've had. But I was wrong. Outside the city proper, you will see the tallest mountain in the Philippines, the majestic Mt. Apo as it overlooks Davao. A 30-minute boat ride south of the city brought me to the Pearl Farm Resort. Basking at the natural beauty in front of me, I wondered how a scenic spot like this can be so secluded. Located on the tip of Samal Island, this tranquil resort is a great destination for people who want to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. But as I was enjoying my stay, I didn't realize that it was time to head back home. This quintessential city in the south is perhaps one of the best places I've been to. Not because it beats all the others with its beauty and natural attractions but maybe because of its people and they way they live their life. There's warmth in their smiles, a sense of affection in their voice. No wonder a lot of people choose to start a new life here.

Now I'm back to the city, back to where I started. And as I look back to all the places I recently visited, my heart screams for more adventures. But that will have to wait. For now I'll just ponder on my travel memories.
