In blunt terminology, a lot of people don't know the first thing about being healthy nor do they know the importance of physical education. I cannot stress how important P.E. is to young children, teens, and even adults. Physical education is one of the most important things a person can be taught, but many refuse to acknowledge its usefulness. Personally, I don't believe there is another side to this question: YES, physical education should be mandatory.
First and foremost, physical education teaches a person to respect their own body. Staying physically active throughout your life is extremely important for your overall health. Obvious, right? Apparently, some missed out on this message when they were complaining about their P.E. teacher. Your body will remain stronger for a much longer period of time if you exercise. It's that simple.
We live in a nation where $157 billion of health care is spent on dealing with obesity. Now, I understand that certain factors can cause uncontrollable obesity. I truly understand that. What I do not understand, however, is why anyone who can help being obese does not do so. Sure, it's all mental. That just means that anyone who can't do it isn't motivated or dedicated enough. That's being blunt, and I won't take it back.
Physical education forces students to remain at least somewhat active on a regular basis. Of course, there are the lazy kids that hate their lives when they're playing sports, so they don't bother putting in any effort to exercise. They fail, and we don't pity them because it's their problem after that. P.E. requires a person to stay active and learn to be active, which is exactly what it's designed to do. Don't get rid of it anytime soon!
The importance of physical education cannot be stressed enough! If it isn't mandatory, then we run the risk of children growing up to be unfit and more then likely obese. Obesity is a huge problem, but proper P.E. can lead a person down a healthier path. Children need the most physical education during school, but adults need it just as much too!
Think about it. Adults have the least amount of reasons to stay physically fit compared to children and teens. Then again, they also have the least amount of time in some cases, but it doesn't matter. Everyone, no matter their age, needs constant physical education. Without it, you've got an obese nation with no value for exercise. And that's a problem!
