The sun has withdrawn
Its love for the day
Standing only to stretch
Followed by an extended yawn
Nights like these
Make one feel so mellow
As the man in the moon
Works his magic till dawn
Before long steam will settle
Into freshly cooled concrete
She gazes out the window
Focused on a hydrant across the street
With each drip precedes a drop
Is it a leak or added percussion?
Her thoughts are racing rapidly
Contemplating the absence of something
The telephone rings
Her friends are expecting her
But she'd rather stare at the sky
Simple pleasure life brings
On a quest to free her mind
She pours a glass of wine
And searches through her crates
Rhythms replace stress in due time
Her soft fingers
Glide through stacks of wax
Somehow landing upon Gloria
Despite the dust and cracks
Her record player causes euphoria
Summer night will transition
Into a beautiful morning
Courtesy of Lonnie Liston
Through listening
Her life just became an adventure
Filled with crazy melodies that linger
And hopes of becoming a jazz singer

Poetry: Summer nights
by Kendra Allen
SUMMER 1969
Sometimes when evening falls too soon
And years slip by too fast,
I shake the autumn from my hair
And dream of
Summer nights beside a lake shared with a friend in the peacefulness that
spreads itself across the earth at the end
Come walk with me this magic night
Let a golden moon light our way
As cicada chirps count our steps
And drown the secret words
by Sarah Flora
Summer nights are listening to frogs sing by the pond.
Summer nights are laying in a hammock, enjoying the breeze.
Summer
Summer nights.
Sitting in the porch swing,
With you close by my side,
Swaying to our hearts' rhythm,
In the fragrant summer
