How to House train your new Springer Spaniel pup

The focal point to remember when house training your new pup is consistency, get yourself and the puppy into a routine, of feeding and going outside to make its business. If possible it is a good idea to feed the puppy at the same time of the day, then it will be easier to predict the toilet habits of your new pet. How often you feed the pup and how often it needs to be taken outside depends on the age of your new pup.

Be aware, your new puppy will always give hints that he wants to go to the toilet, usually circling and sniffing the ground., If you have been too preoccupied with other things to detect, why is it the puppies fault? No, it is not, and shouting and beating the pup will be totally unfair. If you are busy doing other things and let's face it, we all have other jobs that need to be done, at first it may be better to get yourself a kitchen timer and have it go off at hourly intervals and take him outside to do his toilet. Until you have got yourself and the pup into dependable habits, this should be able to minimize any little accidents. Take your pup out to the garden for a full ten minutes, start to give him commands such as potty or toilet so that he can understand what the commands mean, and when he does what he has been taken out there to do, reward him with lots of praise and a couple of doggy treats.

Also, crate training your puppy, is one of the most relevant jobs to be done. This will assist in house training of the pup so much. The main reason for this is that a dog will not want to soil its sleeping space. Crates also help in making your pup think it has its own place and will help your pup feel secure.

Very soon after getting your pup home, put him into the crate. He may well cry and whine at first but try not to get him out until he is quiet as if the whimpering behaviour is rewarded, you have started to give him the wrong signals right away. If you are able to locate the dogs feeding bowls, a few toys and maybe even a small bed for him to snuggle in when he needs to, in the crate, you will find your pup will begin to enjoy his crate. Do give your puppy reliable signals all through the training. The best way to learn when your pup needs to go out to the toilet is to take your dog outside every hour at first. Also, after your pup has eaten or drank, as at these times the extra weight in the pup's stomach can very often put pressure on its bladder and bowel, and it makes sense to rise a little earlier in the morning to let your pup out. Also let your new pet take a visit to the garden before bed, and before you need to go out and need to leave your pup in the crate during the day.

Each and every time your little pup goes to the toilet outside, try to have some treats ready, and lots of loving approval as this is the best way to educate the puppy. Praise, lots of stroking, plus a few doggy treats and your new friend will soon begin to understand exactly the actions that it needs to do to get the rewards. Do remember; however, try to be consistent, because giving the pup different signals during training will only result in a poorly trained confused dog who is not too happy.
