Scene: You eneter the baby shower with all of your friends surrounding you. Pregnant woman center; everyone stops and looks your way to see what's in your hands. Mentally sizing up the gift ( as well as you)! Gifts, like first impressions leave a lasting impressionof you! Of course you want to make a show, and be sincere, and be thoughtful, and be thrifty...but can all this really mesh? Yes, it can! You just have to get out your tool belt and get a little crafty. Best of all: I promise it is so easy!

Long after the expensive clothes that the baby outgrew have been thrown to the bottom of a pile a messy laundry, and the countless stuffed animals forgotten in the closet there is one thing that mom and dad will always remember: diapers. "What, diapers?", you say. Yes diapers. They are the most practical thing to buy! Whether the mom and dad to be are earth-friendly-trendy, or convenience oriented, i.e. cloth or disposable, they are a must have!

Ok, so diapers may be worthy of your money in terms of practicality, and you certainly can get quite the portion for under $20, but they aren't really a show stopper. Can thoughtful rock the wow factor...with diapers? Sure can. Here's how:

Build yourself a diaper cake for the shower! No really, I've had one, they're fantastic! Open up that pack or two of diapers you get at any old store. Just take a decorative platter or any stable base. Next start from the inside out connecting them in a circular pattern taping or tying them together. Once you have the bottom, make it a layer cake. Repeat this step twice more with each level smaller than the previous one. Think of that beautiful tiered cake you saw at the last wedding you went to. That's what you're making...sort of!

Once you have your cake it's time to decorate. Frosting is great, but for this cake think ribbons and bows (hair bows for baby girls) and then take small baby toys like rattles and such then affix them all around the cake. Fantastic...who knew you were so crafty!

Everyone will fall in love with the wondrous gift you present as you enter the party. Pictures will be taken, memories will be made, and you will always be remembered fondly for your thoughtfulness, and ingenuity. The best part of all is that you know for sure mom and dad will get good use out of your gift once their little bundle arrives.
