They Build What Americans Want

This point has been argued for years, and it always turns out that the Americans are going to buy the car that they want to drive, no matter what the cafe standard is, as people whine about the already high prices cars and trucks, you pose a question that can only make the price rise.

More government intervention means more taxes for you and I, it also means retooling of the plants, and this can cost millions, if not billions of dollars every time they do it, and you wonder why their stock shares dwindle as one author says.

Just look at the GM line now, they already have some of the best fuel economy cars on the market, not to mention Ford, what should they be forced to make every car they build a fuel economy car the answer is no.

What do you do when somebody wants a comfortable car to drive, like a Cadillac, or a Lincoln, I suppose you just tell these people that they can't drive the car they want, because it doesn't get thirty MPG or better, just try that and see what you get.

This is the United States, and we have this thing called freedom, the companies that thrive in this country also have a thing called freedom, and they shouldn't have an idiot in their ear constantly telling them that they need to do this or that.

You quite simply can't make people buy a car that they don't want, if you really want to see the automotive market place take a dive, try to make people buy what you want them to buy, tell them that they have to buy a car just because it doesn't get certain cafe standards.

Your 100% right when you say that this debate should never take place, the only question should be to the people buying the cars, do you want to pay more for the cars you buy, like you do for Toyota; BMW, and Volkswagen, this should really be the question.

The truth of the matter is that they don't build a better car then we do, they build a car that the true UN-Americans want to think is a better car, so they can justify buying it, and still not worry about helping our country by buying American.

In the end it's really up to you, do you want to pay more for cars then you already do, do you really want to make these companies retool their entire operation, if so then you should be the one putting up the money for them to do so.

Let them build American cars, don't force the American auto makers to build a smart car, the thought of that is just ridiculous, just because a few people think it's right doesn't make it so, and as America usually does it will build it's self back, and so will our auto makers.
