I have WHAT?!
I was swept up
in a busy, happy whirl.
Work and children,
friends, family,
cooking, laundry,
long walks by Lake Michigan.
Then the lead limbed fatigue,
the pain that doubles me over.
Suddenly standing in my doctor's office
trying to hear what he is saying.
I have what?
It will always return,
like some malignant homing pigeon?
Now, awash in a sea of chemo,
frightened daughters,
which bright scarf
to cover my bald head.
