People often think about a full blown vacation that has expensive requirements to see and do things. There is a way to have a very nice get away with just a day or two off. That adventure is called a road trip. A road trip can be fairly inexpensive depending on the activities you choose to do. The bulk of your trip will be gasoline, food and lodging.

If you decide to bring your own food rather than eat out it will be cheaper. Some people feel that discovering that local restaurant that is off the beaten path but nearby is an adventure. Different locations can have quite a variety of specialized foods. Barbeque's can vary considerably in various regions of the country. Maybe it is seafood you are interested in or just some plain home style cooking. Prepare your budget if you decide this is for you.

For those that wish to bring their own food there are options to make it enjoyable. This can be as simple as bringing a few sandwiches and stopping somewhere when you are hungry. If you have a park of some sort to stop at you can actually prepare food in advance and make it into a picnic. It is always nice to eat outdoors on a nice day. State parks are usually a very nice place for a picnic. while enjoying lunch you can enjoy the serenity that the park can offer.

One of the more enjoyable aspects of a road trip is simply enjoying the country side. This will vary according to you location as well as the time of the year. It can be as simple as picking a road from an obscure road that you have to know how to find or a well traveled interstate. These can take you through a variety of scenery. Once you decide on the direction of your travel take into account if this is a day trip or overnight trip. If you are traveling overnight you need to decide if you are camping are staying in a hotel.

While a road trip can be done on a whim it is much more enjoyable to have some knowledge of the area you plan to go into. A little research can give you an idea of some of the sights and sounds of the area. It is very important to be flexible on a road trip because of the possibility of finding something completely unexpected. This is part of the adventure of a road trip. A road trip can be simply a mini vacation over a weekend off or simply an affordable way to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of everyday life.
