Movie reviews: Angels & Demons

Angels and Demons is the sequel to the hugely successful film The Da Vinci Code and sees Tom Hanks reprise his role of Prof. Robert Langdon in it. Released on the 14th May in the UK it achieved an opening box office figure of just over $77 million worldwide. Alongside Tom Hanks director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman also return to produce this movie. Even though the film is released as a sequel to The Da Vinci Code, it is in fact a prequel as far as its book form is concerned however due to the wonders of Hollywood the book version is chopped and changed around a little to enable the movie to run after the original film.

Main Cast
Tom Hanks Robert Langdon

Once again Tom Hanks steps in to the shoes of Professor Langdon, as with almost all of Tom Hanks' prior roles he produced a fine job however every time he starts staring at the floor while searching for clues I keep excepting to see a giant piano for him to jump on.

Ewan Mcgregor Patrick McKenna

Originally this character was an Italian in the book however the role was changed to a Northern Irish just so that Ewan could become involved in the film. I have always considered Ewan to be a fine actor ever since such films as A Life less Ordinary and Shallow Grave. Thanks to the great Hollywood they even managed to make his man of God character into a bit of an action hero as well.

Ayelet Zurer Vittoria Vetra

Having not really noticed Ayelet before in previous films that I have watched I did a bit of a background check on her and found out she was also in the film Vantage Point which if you haven't seen is a definite must see. Personally I did not think she was as good as Audrey Tautou was in the first movie as she just seemed to be more in the background for a good majority of her scenes with nothing she did really sticking out in my eyes.

Plot Line

The film starts with the death of the Pope leaving the Church with the task of electing a new one during this time the ancient enemy of the Church the Illuminati (a society originally consisting of master scientists that stood against the Church's teaching) re-emerges and steals a newly developed antimatter bomb, along with the four main cardinals who are in the running to become the next Pope. The Illuminati threaten to kill the cardinals and destroy the Vatican, in light of this the Church turns to Professor
