Taking you to a world of magic and mystery is what the Harry Potter series does whether it's reading the book or watching the movie. But comparing the two, the books are better.
Reading increases creativity to a large extent. It's the key that opens the door of imagination. When reading books, especially the ones like Harry potter which are so descriptive in nature, it tends to create an imaginative visual. We almost become like painters who fill up a blank canvas. And J.K.Rowling transports us to this mystical world filled with breathtaking and exquisite magic.
The books tell us the story in dept with lots of details. The movies were not able to do that especially with the series after the 'Harry Potter and Goblet of fire' because the there were lots of plots in the books. Movies try to fit in details within a limited time so they have to leave out parts in a book. Sometimes this tends to be important, especially for people who have read the book. And this might even pose to be one of the shortcomings of the movie.
The Harry Potter series is not just any other children's book where things just happen instantly one situation after another but it's one filled with lots of emotion and feelings. The circumstances that Harry Potter goes through and the sincerity of the people around him are well described. Reading about Voldemort and his desire to destroy Harry Potter and the menacing death-eaters will give you chills. You grow and mature along with these characters and wait eagerly to know what would happen next with the arrival of the next book.
When we watch the movies we have a presentiment notion of what's going to happen next because of factors like the premises the characters are in and the background music being played to a situation. We have a vague idea of who is good and bad because we see the way the characters are dressed and their facial expressions. Suspense is not held longer in movies is because of time related issues. But the books sustain the mystery of a situation over a longer period of time. We do not get to see the premises or facial expressions and there is no music to make us aware of situations. We are left with our own perception that we get while reading the description in the book. And if the books are as interesting as Harry Potter one will not mind a long read.
For those who have not read the books, the movies are really a treat. They are well made and have to be given credit. But to really enjoy this magical ride and to experience the full depth of the details, reading the books is the only option.
