Road trip essentials

Across America, people look forward to road trips more than any pastime imaginable. They are beneficial for a number of reasons. Enjoyable drives are a natural stress reliever. Sightseeing is guaranteed no matter where you go. The exitement and anticipation of where people go builds as they near their destination. Finally, the apex of the road trip culminates in exuberation at their arrival point.

However, there are a few essentials that are necessary before and during a road trip. Lets go into some preparation beforehand. It is important to have a road atlas handy with the route and an alternate route to the destination high-lighted. In case of accidents or road closures, there is an alternate means of going to the destination point. Some people use a GPS (global positioning sensor) or a Tom-Tom (an electronic navigating system) that tells you where to go and when to turn.

Tools, a good spare tire, flashlight, and safety flares are a must for any long distance driver. In case of a mechanical breakdown or a flat, the tools and spare tire are ready for use. Temporary repairs can be made until the vehicle makes it to the repair shop or help arrives. Flares can be ignited to prevent any collisions while on the road. The hood and trunk doors raised lets other passers by know your vehicle is disabled. A flashlight is necessary in case of night time emergencies. Being a member of an AAA group has proven invaluable to many a stranded motorist. Depending on the coverage, the costs can be minimal. Always make sure the fluid levels are filled before departing on your trip.

Frequent rest stops are necessary for the well being and comfort for all passengers and drivers alike. They allow people to stretch and refresh themselves. The drivers can get a second wind and snacks can be purchased for the trip. If need be, one driver can take over so the other can rest. Pulling over to the side of the road and switching drivers is dangerous as many a fatality has occurred as a result of this. Checking the oil levels at every rest stop is a good practice as it can save alot of heartache down the road. Be sure to check the tire pressure and wear as it is equally important.

A first aid kit is always recommended as injuries can happen. They occur more frequently while making emergency repairs or changing tires on the vehicle. Slip and falls or knee scrapes are always possible, especially with children. Bee stings and insect bites can happen to anyone. Any time there is an accident, a first aid kit should always be present.

In closing, we have discussed some of the main essentials for a road trip. With a checklst in hand and the necessities being marked off, your road trip should be enjoyable and memorable. Whether the trip being planned is long or short distance, a regular practice of these essentials will help ensure a safe one.
