Oh, and I almost forgot one that's reasonably priced on top of that? Well, look no further than the Mayan Riviera located on the east coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. While almost everyone is familiar with Cancun many visitors to this region of Mexico miss out on the amazing experiences the rest of the Yucatan to offer. From just relaxing on a beach with your favorite book, to exploring the mysteries of an ancient civilization this wonderful vacation destination has a little something for everyone, your problem will be finding time to experience it all!
Relaxing in the Sun
The beautiful palm tree lined white sand beaches of the Riviera stretch for miles south of Cancun to the tiny fishing village of Punta Allen located in Sian Ka'an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. So whether you're looking for a busy resort beach to party down, or maybe you like life a little more mellow and would rather take a trek to find your own a remote wild beach without a soul around, you can find your place in the sun somewhere along this amazing coastline. Here are just a few locations to check out.
Heading south from Cancun you will find the little town of Porto Morelos. Formerly a small sleeping fishing village. Porto Morelos has grown up and the town now offers a number of restaurants and accommodations for the traveler. The beaches here are a mix of au natural, and the more manicured version associated with the resorts and beach houses.
As you continue south you will come to the bustling town of Playa de Carmen. This town has this seen explosive growth in the last decade and offers the visitor the whole enchilada. Gorgeous beaches, beach bars, water sports, and an eclectic mix of people from across the world can all be found in Playa de Carmen. Also located in "Playa" as the locals call it is the ferry that can take you to the island of Cozumel. Worthy an article of its own ,Cozumel famous for its coral reefs offers great snorkeling and it is well worth the trip. All this and more await you Playa de Carmen With its fun nightlife, nice beaches and centralized location, Playa is an excellent choice for a base of operation s while exploring the entire area.
Beyond Playa de Carmen, you have the wonderful beaches of Paamul, Akmul, Playa Aventuras, and eventually Tulum.
