There is no question and no doubt in my mind that the good old days are gone forever when it comes to job hunting. I never liked job hunting in the first place, but I do remember a time when I could go anywhere, and I mean anywhere of my choosing, walk in, fill out an application, was able to speak to the person in charge after I completed my application, and be interviewed for a job that same day. Sometimes I was hired on the spot and other times I was asked to return for an interview with the manager. But I always found a job within the first week of my job hunting and I had options of accepting, or turning down a job offer. What happened that has made job hunting so difficult and to apply for a job so ridiculous?
Everyone around me states that there are more people looking for a job than there are positions available. I agree with that, however, before this fact became truth employers became anal retentive before the economy took a nose dive and now it has become really appalling. For example, just to apply for a waitress position or to bag groceries you have to take a psychological test coupled with filling out an application which takes 45 minutes. These tests are ridiculous and are also included by many other companies offering various positions. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to become a waitress nor, to bag groceries and every company no matter where you go will train you according to their policies, procedures, and regulations. The temp services are just as bad. You are fresh out of college and have earned your degree. Yet, you have to take all kinds of various tests before they will even consider you. Just give me a job! Anywhere I worked in the past I learned from hands-on training and experience. That is by far, the best way to learn and to become experienced, and as I mentioned earlier each company will train you. I made more money and earned my way into management before I went to college. When I graduated from college I found it more difficult to find a job and I was being offered less money. Something is very wrong with this picture.
I recently spoke with a job placement specialist for Career Central who told me that you have only 10 seconds to have your resume recognized. That is correct. In fact, the employer does not care what your job duties, honors, awards, affiliations, and achievements are. I was informed that the employer does not even look at your submitted resume. It is first run through a scanner which searches for
