Speaking without thought

Created on: July 29, 2009

Everybody is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions being it that each person is a unique individual. People will not always agree with each others life choices especially family who can be the most critical judges in your life.

When it comes to those we care about, sometimes we find in life its easier to hear from a third party friend then family. With most cases its easier for a family member to tell it like it is expecting they will get over it and move on. Family can be the most judgmental people in your life.

Family members seem to always make the biggest communication error when it comes to feeling as though they should tell it like it is, not thinking before they speak because they are a parent or sibling to the one being told.

Telling somebody what you think should be done tactfully, expressing your concern without sounding selfish or saying something scornful. In other words, think before you speak otherwise you may cause some damage that can't be undone as well as the guilt you will feel once you have hurt a loved ones feelings.

When somebody is being difficult try asking them kindly what is bothering them. Show you care by proving to have the concern and lend a helping hand if not an ear to listen, one day you might need that somebody to talk to. As they saying goes "Do onto others as you would have done to you".

Lashing out by pointing out faults, what they did or didn't do or how you think they are can be hurtful, insulting and sound selfish.

Take into consideration before you speak your mind that thats just what it is, your mind. Think about the person you are dealing with. What kind of person are they? What kind of situation are they dealing with? Would I want to hear what I think if it were my situation?

Before telling it like it is try to think about the consequences of not only action taken but words spoken as well. Would what you have to say really benefit the person being told or simply push them away.

Many different types of relationships are ruined by someone speaking their mind before evaluating and taking the time to listen rather than run their mouths. Whatever the relationship be it family, friendship or romantic all take the key words communication and understanding to get past any barriers holding the relationship back from moving forward.

Not everybody has the same thoughts or live the same life. Unless the actions of the one being told affects you, you're really no better as everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect.
