scars
I got this scar on my mouth when I took
a large iron hook from the side of the house
swinging on a clothes line. my mom made me
go to school the next day.
I got this scar on my thigh when I took
a sliver of wood, playing on an old door
in my backyard. my parents never had me see
a doctor, my friend's mother helped me get it out.
I got this scar on my elbow when I took
a hit from a third base runner whose job
was to make the winning run. my dad told me
I was fine, I had a huge elbow for about two months.
I got these scars on my wrist when I took
a razor at the age of fifteen, deciding not
to live any more. my parents never noticed
either problem.
I got this scar when I took
a line drive to my knee. my husband
neither noticed nor cared. I finally
had surgery five years later.
I got this last scar from the many times
my heart has been pried from my chest.
people who cared or loved me were not aware
of the damage they had caused.
Some of my scars are self-inflicted
some were inflicted through other means.
but all of my scars went unnoticed until I
found out I had the power to make them
fade on my own.

These scars that crease my heart
are a gift from your callous part.
The age of innocence has passed away
and only dreams
The scars of my heart run deep
I have never healed from you
you are the reason for my being the reason for me to breath

The laughter of my faded youth
is but mumble in the dark.
Others recall the fun and games,
I recall the scars.

"Dig It"
My eyes are closed, I remember the hurt.
The lies are open, but I'll never avert.
You're under my skin, buried deep
