Should you choose online media or traditional media to promote your business?

Should you choose online media or traditional media to promote your business is a conundrum faced by many companies in the present day. The explosive technological advancements within the last decade or so have provided a wider array of potential advertising mediums than ever before and the simple process of determining even which one to use can be a daunting prospect.

It is important in the first instance when examining this issue to define precisely what is meant by online media and traditional media. Online media is such as news websites or websites which provide services for consumers and include facilities for companies or businesses to advertise upon their pages. Traditional media of course includes newspapers and magazines but also TV and radio stations.

The first determination for a business to make when contemplating whether to use online media or traditional media for advertising purposes is to establish the nature of their target market and where the consumers who make up that market would be most likely to see their advert. This would involve taking in to account whether the members of the target market are more likely to buy a newspaper or look up an Internet news site, or whether they are more likely to watch TV in the evenings or surf the Web. This factor alone will go a long, long way to making the appropriate determination.

It is equally of great importance to this issue that the cost of promoting the business in the various mediums be established. The vast majority of businesses will have an advertising budget which they have to adhere to and it may be that the type of advertising they are first of all considering is outwith the constraints of that budget. Quotes for precisely what will be provided in terms of advertising coverage and for how long or with what frequency should therefore be obtained in all instances.

The nature of the business itself also has to be factored in to this equation. This would be particularly important where the business is itself an online one. Advertising an online business in traditional media is clearly less likely to be successful than advertising it in online media, with a direct link to the business's own presence upon the Web.

The above three considerations are those which are most important to determining whether you should choose online media or traditional media to promote your business and taking each of them fully in to account should ensure that the correct decision is ultimately made.
