Ever since the beginning of civilization, humans have embarked on the search for truth. Contrary to common belief, truth cannot be whatever one wants it to be because when truth is whatever one wants it to be, it can become very dangerous and threaten our freedom (it already has and is). There are many ways that truth and freedom relate. One of the most important ways is found in The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America as quoted in part below.
"We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government , laying its foundation on such Principles...". (Emphasis added).
I am not a scholar of The Declaration of Independence but no one has to be to see the connection between Truth and Freedom (Liberty) in the above excerpt. What the Founding Fathers wrote above clearly shows their genius mind. However, in reality it shows that the real genius is the Creator and our Founding Fathers were wise enough to know that.
The freedoms that we have enjoyed for so long in the United States come from Judeo/Christian values, undoubtedly the Foundation of America. The attacks on Judeo/Christian values by secularists and others on the left and now led by President Obama are seriously and dangerously undermining these unalienable Rights, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
In the excerpt above we see that there are Truths that are indisputable and that are obvious, self evident. These rights come from the Creator which means that no man can take them away. When we begin to deny that there is a Creator who gives us these Rights, then we leave the decision as to what our rights are to other men and women, i.e. an activist Supreme Court and Big Government. They are no longer unalienable. Government is becoming alarmingly huge at a rapid rate and unless we stop it we will indeed lose these Rights, maybe forever!
