At 1,700 square miles Fort Bliss sits in two states and is the second largest military base in the U.S. If you happen to find yourself in the El Paso area near Fort Bliss and you're looking for something to do this should get you started. Whether you're looking for history, a show, nature, or just about anything else the Fort Bliss area has something for everyone.
Have children along for the ride? Then you need to check out these places, they can offer the children some play time, dad a round of golf, and give the whole family a chance to cool down.
Ascarate Park (6900 Delta Avenue, El Paso, TX 79905) Ascarate Park has a 280 acre 18-hole golf course, a 48 acre lake with boating, and 152 acres dedicated to sports and recreation. It also includes Western Playland Amusement Park and Wet and Wild World. For information call 915-772-5605.
El Paso Zoo (4001 East Paisano, El Paso, TX 79905) A small 18 acre zoo with 240 species of animals, including lions, elephants, and monkeys with more coming soon. Adults $5 and children $3.
If your a nature lover done pass up on Hueco Tanks just on account of the name. It's not named after the local military complex, but the basins at the bottom of the cliffs.
Hueco Tanks State Historic Site (6900 Hueco Tanks Road No. 1, El Paso, TX 79938) With rock climbing, ancient pictographs, hiking and more this 860 acre state park has enough for a day of even a few days. Entrance fee is $5 per person and camping is $12 per night.

Utep Theater (500 West University Avenue, Room 371, El Paso, TX 79968) The stage of the University of Texas at El Paso offer shows from there BA and MA students at the national recognized school of theater. The websites a bit out dated so call 915-747-5146 for information on the current season.
El Paso Playhouse (2501 Montana Avenue, El Paso, TX 79903) This is a top notch community theater with regular shows. Call 915-532-1317 for pricing and information about their current season.
Whether you're laid over at the nearby El Paso airport a night or you've come to El Paso for several nights the Fort Bliss area, offers something for everyone. With plenty of places to stay, and a whole lot to offer El Paso is a great place to visit and this list should at the very least get you started.
