When your spouse is in the military, you are in the military, for you too will be making sacrifices for your country. You will sacrifice time spent with your spouse, at times, you may have to sacrifice the everyday assumption that your spouse is safe, or, you may have to sacrifice the presence of your spouse during important moments in your children's lives. This takes much courage and commitment on your part and a strong belief that your country is worth it.
The wonderful thing about being a military spouse is that you do have a wonderful support group. The other spouses know exactly what you are going through, and often become the very best friends you will ever have. I have not known any better friends than the ones I knew while my husband served in the Army. I don't know how I could have made it through the time he spent in Iraq, in 1989, had it not been for them.
When your spouse is in the military, and away from home, they need to know that you're okay. They have a lot on their mind and don't need the added stress of worrying that you are at home freaking out. Reassure them that you are just fine - freak out later.
Never miss a chance to tell them how proud you are of them - these are our real heroes and deserve to be noticed as such, especially by their spouses.
