Good dancing is a romantic and sensual pleasure to watch and to participate in, it involves two people letting go of their individual need to control and flowing together in a rhythmic way. There is a dance for every mood and the feelings evoked by the music are shared without words or conflict. Every kind of interaction used by couples to communicate verbally with each other can be played out, dramatised, on the dance floor with full co-operation by both dancers. It is a wonderful way to reach an intuitive understanding of each other's body language. The movements that come easily to one and not the other, the possible difficulty in holding the head high and the body graceful, the team work necessary to become the perfect human representation of the music, involves generosity and pride in the other, not just oneself.
The Tango has to be the most challenging and exciting dance ever invented. The haughty and dramatic movements elicit sensual feelings in the observer and must unleash powerful, primal, male/female pair bonding in which both know they are attracted but must go through the ritual that prepares them for love making. Is it possible to dance the tango, to flirt and tease and not be passionately aroused?
The Waltz is a dance for the man to allow his woman to shine. He in his sombre suit and she in her ball gown that swirls around his legs and shows the briefest flash of ankle. He holds her out as if admiring her and then pulls her in close in a lovely melodic and graceful display of 'look how beautiful she is'. It is an old fashioned and gentle sharing of respect with the man being manly and the woman at her most feminine. It evokes "Gone with the Wind" and English manor houses with carriages delivering the genteel to the annual ball of the local Lord.
The Jive is where sheer joy plays its part in the couples' life. It is athletic and has an infinite number of moves that insist on fitness and quick changes, how better for couples to keep healthy and keep in tune while toning!
And so it goes, the dance of life enacted every time we get on the dance floor. A couple who love dancing can leave so many unnecessary words behind and say it all with their bodies to music. To take up dancing as a fun thing to do can improve a relationship in so many ways. They are going out on a regular basis to learn together. The learning involves body contact that must be just right so the signals can pass from one to the other, without thoughts or words getting in the way, just purely sensual understanding. This speaks for itself as a way for couples to become less inhibited in an unthreatening way. The pleasure of moving as one to music is unsurpassed in any other pass time and can only enhance intimacy and knowledge of how to get in rhythm as a couple and stay there.
